The MyVoice team recently shared the perspectives of youth researchers, research trainees and mentors, and a youth activism and civic engagement leader to illustrate how youth partnerships in pediatric health research can ground research goals and outcomes.
By creating these partnerships, research can be situated in a way that centers youth needs and priorities; create opportunities for youth and emerging adults to be exposed to health research and develop skills; and broaden pathways for dissemination of findings.
The authors published their current findings in the paper, “Partnering With Youth Researchers in a Dynamic Reproductive Health Policy Landscape” in the American Academy of Pediatrics journal Pediatrics. Read their paper here.
Authors include Andrea J. Hoopes, MD, MPH; Elena Padley; Kinsey Vear, MD, MPH; Tammy Chang, MD, MPH; Tamara Marzouk, LCSW, MPH; Thang D. Dao, BA; Eleanor Esbrook, BS, BA; Renee M. Odom, MPH; Julie Maslowsky, PhD; and Bianca A. Allison, MD, MPH
The team examined the perspectives in the context of a previously published paper on youths’ perception of the impact on abortion-related topics following the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court ruling in 2022. That paper, published in the journal Contraception, can be found here.
